I was diagnosed with tendinopathy of the right gluteus medius a few days before the race. Having already prepared hard and committed many hours into training for that race, it felt very disheartening to think that I might miss the chance of running it. As someone who doesn't quit that easily (if ever), I got to see my physiotherapist asap and talk to my coach at the same time, figuring out what is possible to do and assess the situation better.

To cut a very long story short, I took into consideration all risks, and decided to give it a go, see what happens mid-race and take it from there. It was HARD! Every other step was basically full of pain and there was greatly reduced mobility too. I remember myself feeling super tired after just 3KM into the race and it really felt like I won't make it. Fast forward to today, I still don't know how I managed to finish that race eventually. As top 2 factors, I must say number 1 was the everlasting support of my girlfriend, and number 2 some mysterious deposit of determination and willpower, that I got to tap into during those 2.5 hours.

It's fascinating to witness what our human body can endure during such moments, and how running can be about mental strength, as much as it is about physical endurance!
